Chalk & Crag

Editorial Policy

Our goal is simple: accurate, practical and honest information that helps climbers train better and stay healthy.

Who writes our content

Articles are written by Petr Hess, a strength and conditioning coach for individuals and sports clubs. Injury and rehabilitation content is reviewed by a licensed physiotherapist before publication. The reviewer's name and the review date are shown on the article.

How we research

  • We base training and injury content on peer-reviewed research and established clinical guidance, and we link to our sources.
  • Where the evidence is limited or mixed, we say so.
  • Gear buyer's guides are research-based: we compile manufacturer specifications, independent published tests and climber feedback, and we say clearly at the top of each guide that we haven't tested every product ourselves. We only call something a hands-on review if we have actually used it.

Updates and corrections

We review articles regularly and show the date of the last update. If you spot an error, please tell us and we'll correct it promptly.

Images and AI

Some images on this site, including portraits and scenic climbing images, are AI-generated illustrations and are labelled as such. We never use AI-generated images as evidence of product testing or of specific ascents. We may use AI tools to help with research and drafting, but every article is checked, edited and approved by a human author before publication.
